Library Staff Recommendation
Book five of The Stormlight Archive and the end of Act I of the story. I will avoid plot spoilers in this review.
Following the previous books of this series, I came in with high expectations for this book, and they were met. While some of my guesses for the board strokes of the plot and character development proved correct, I guessed the details wrong and there were plenty of twists that surprised me. Being the end of Act I, it closes off a lot of the character plot threads that had been moving through the previous books, but it opens up the larger narrative to a far broader status quo for Act II.
I was thoroughly hooked by the story and found this book difficult to put down. Every major character had their abilities and values pushed to their limits, the main narrative about the war against Odium reached new levels. Perhaps most importantly, this book saw huge amounts of exposition. We finally learn key details about the past, and about certain characters who had remained somewhat mysterious. Anyone who is a fan of this series will be riveted by these reveals.
I would consider this the best book I read in 2024, and I will be eagerly awaiting the next book of this series.
