A historical fiction novel with a dual timeline: one set in WW2 and the other in current times.

An Austrian girl, Sophie, watches her Jewish father die at the hands of the Germans, and her mother is arrested and then later dies. Sophie gives her nine-year-old sister to an American couple who are taking children back to America for safety. The consulate offers her a job as a librarian to the Royal Family in England working for the British intelligence in exchange for information about the King’s brother who has ties with Hitler.

An American girl, Lacey, stumbles across an old letter amongst her grandmother’s things from a woman claiming to be her sister from Austria. Lacey’s grandmother has never spoken about her Austrian heritage as she was adopted by an American family in the USA when she was nine years old.

Sophie uncovers some documents and hands them over to intelligence and then tries to save the royal princesses from an ambush attack by fanatical fascists group at the palace and gets arrested and accused of being an accomplice. After spending time in prison accused of treason, Sophie is finally pardoned by the Royal Family and receives a medal of honour for her bravery. Lacey searches for her grandmother’s family and finds a blood cousin who reveals all about her great aunt. Together they discover the truth.

An adventure mystery story that ends well. An easy read.
