The Beauties is a historically profound and accurate depiction of England in the time of Oliver Cromwell. The serious game of winning court favours by men, and the subservient role of women is the force behind the narrative. I really liked the story, well written, very detailed, and an awakening to the challenge of creating art, especially portraiture.
A good solid, challenging, detailed historical novel.
