I loved this book. It is an autobiography about growing up in China in the 1950’s during the early days of communism to parents who were both schoolteachers and classed as intellectuals who were condemned by the state. The author lives through the famine, and at 13 he escapes to Hong Kong. He later manages to immigrate to Australia where he studies medicine and becomes a doctor.
It is such a genuine caring story.
