A tale about a lad called Ned, growing up in Tasmania. His mother has died, two brothers have gone off to war. His father is emotionally unavailable and struggling to maintain a living on the orchard. So, in his lonely space, Ned dreams of having a boat and eventually through his persistence, and to the surprise of many, manages to get one. As his life moves forward, you can see how his choices made back then influenced future developments.
A well-written book, but I found continual moving between times distracting and somewhat disappointing.
