A highly informative and engaging memoir by a former lady in waiting to Princess Margaret. An interesting revelation of a “vanished era of upper-class eccentricity.”
The author provides a demonstration of the stiff upper lip which enabled her to survive 54 years of marriage to a philandering and unpredictable husband. Her fortitude is amazing because although she revelled in the glamour of a lavish and privileged lifestyle, two of her sons died tragically early, and the third met with an accident which left him unable to walk for a number of years. There were numerous insights into the lives and characters of the royals and celebrities, and exploits are recounted with humour and perception.
