This memoir by a First Nations author focuses on domestic abuse and co-dependency of the female victim. I found it very difficult to imagine why Ashlee stayed with Ronny and kept taking him back, but I learnt about the importance of family ties and why victims of abuse are so reluctant to call the police in violent situations. The narrative was therefore depressing and repetitive; however, the author eventually overcame her “addiction” to her partner and went on to Higher Education and made a life for herself and her children.
