There are Rivers in the Sky, by Elif Shafak

Cover of There are Rivers in the Sky, by Elif Shafak.

This is an historical fiction account linking the three main characters from the 18th century London slums to ancient Mesopotamia and modern Syria and Turkey. She tells this following the flow of a drop of water through time and the flow of the Thames and Tigris rivers which is a clever construct. However, while I enjoyed it overall, I felt it was much too long and the characters a bit one dimensional and stereotypic.

Overall, it was an interesting, well researched story cleverly interwoven but, overall, not entirely compelling
