Library Staff Recommendation
Although this was a far darker tale than I normally like reading, I was completely absorbed into the worlds of this book. We follow three women, all of the same family. Altha in 1618-1619, Violet in 1942, and Kate in 2019. These three women are connected by more than just blood, but a family legacy that ultimately informs their lives.
The three women face considerable suffering in their stories, whether through accusations of witchcraft, or abusive home situations, but this is not a story of victims. Each of them finds the strength to stand-up against the causes of their suffering and is a survivor, despite the best efforts of most of the male characters. Through their family legacy, they find the strength to live independent, counter-cultural lives.
