In 1980 an enigmatic and highly successful novelist meets Elise Morceau, a neurotic and naive young woman and they begin a relationship which falls apart when Constance and Elise go to oversee the filming of one of the older woman’s books.
Three decades later, Rose Simmons is seeking answers about her mother Elise who abandoned her when she as a baby. She learns that Constance Holden was the last person to see her mother alive, so she inveigles herself into the former’s household to try and uncover the truth.
An easy, but compulsive read, well rafted with nuanced characters.
